In this time of pandemic, the Kitsugi technique has been used to represent the changes being experienced as our lives are altered in so many ways. Once over, lives will be stitched back together with missing pieces remaining.
Kitsugi is a Japanese mending technique where broken ceramics are repaired with gold, silver or platinum to accentuate the damage and ‘honour’ its history. Interpreting this method in textiles each broken piece is wrapped in fabric and then gold embroidery thread is used to patch the pieces together.
