In 2016, we will celebrate the 26th year of the vibrant Linden Postcard Show. We are looking forward to receiving another year of colourful works to fill the gallery walls.

The 2016 judges are:

Industry Conversations: Women In Music

The Spotted Mallard are excited to present the new installment: Industry Conversations’ a monthly event that allows industry, musicians and students to have a casual and intimate experience with some of the industry’s biggest and most experienced names.

The inaugural one will be exploring women in the industry, how they have helped shape it and the obstacles they have faced and overcome. It’ll be an eye-opening experience for all (men included).

This casual chat is hosted by Sarah Hamilton of Ditto Music and One of One Australia and the panel consists of Melinda Kraus (The Push Inc), Bryget Chrisfield (theMusic.com.au), Emily Lubitz (Tinpan Orange), Lior Albeck-Ripka (Hear Them Holler management)) and a performance by Greta Stanley.

Artist Residency

ShariTrimble_2013_TUYA_Lo-Res-40Colour Box Studio is excited to offer an opportunity for an Artist in Residence to work in our new space as part of our time at VU at MetroWest, Footscray.

This is an open call out to all artists to apply for the program. One selected artist will undertake a two week residency with the potential for artworks in any medium to grow to encompass the walls, floor, and even roof.  As VU at MetroWest is a public space, the chosen artist’s work should incorporate an interactive or participatory element to engage the local community. The residency will preferably conclude with an installation, exhibition, performance or other public outcome.

TIMELINE

• Friday 6th May: Expression of interest opens (apply here)
• Monday 16th May: 5pm – Expression of interest closes
• Friday 20th May: 2 week residency begins with briefing from Colour Box Studio Team
• Saturday 4th June: 1pm-6pm – Opening exhibition/installation/performance
• Thursday 16th June: Last day of exhibition/installation/other outcome
• Friday 17th June 11am-4pm – Bump out; art works and all materials collected from 138 Nicholson Street, Footscray

Vision

  • Bring excitement to Colour Box Studio’s temporary space at VU at MetroWest, giving passers by and Victoria University students and staff visual engagement;
  • Work/exhibit/create in an inclusive manner, providing an opportunity for the community to engage in/with your work and the space;
  • Fill Colour Box Studio’s space at VU at MetroWest with creative spirit, with whatever form of expression comes naturally to you;
  • Create an accumulative body of work to fill the space with developmental and resolved work.

Potential Applicants

  • Work in any medium, exploring any theme or subject;
  • Able to commit to working within VU at MetroWest from the 20th of May to the 3rd of June for potentially 10-15 hours a week (negotiable) during VU at MetroWest business hours;
  • Able to commit to other dates as outlined in above timeline;
  • Provide their own materials to create artworks/performances/photographs etc;
  • Have enthusiasm to create and connect with people in the space.

Benefits for the Artist in Residence

  • Working in an open, non-traditional space in Footscray’s busy Nicholson Street Mall that encourages foot traffic to engage in a cultural experience inside VU at MetroWest;
  • Opportunity for ambitious and experimental artworks;
  • Solo exhibition, performance or other public outcome from the 4th to the 16th of June for works created in the residency;
  • Rent-free space with the potential for completely transformative artworks within the space;
  • Artwork featured within the Colour Box Studio community;
  • You and your work featured in Colour Box Studio online newsletters, blog posts, social media and website.

Application Process

  • Online application open to all Melbourne based artists interested in the opportunity;
  • You don’t have to be a member to apply but we do ask that the successful applicant sign up to be a Colour Box Studio Member on accepting the residency position (if you want to sign up before 20th May you can get 20% OFF with this code at checkout: cbsmembership20);
  • Expression of interest, detailing how your practice has potential to work inclusively with community (we are open to any ideas about community involvement);
