Winter’s cold, sunny days accentuates the rich desert colours and highlights the distant Atila – a sacred burial site for the Pitjantjatjara people of Central Australia. Known as Mt Conner, Atila is sister to Uluru and Kata-Tjuta.
Atila is in Atilanya country and is associated with Tjukurpa (Dreaming) stories about the Nyiṉya (ice people). The Nyiṉya are ancestral spirits who bring cold weather. For the Yankunytjatjara people, Atila has long been associated with the Wanambi Dreaming, an ancestral spirit who is said to live in the springs in and around the mountain.
