NGA Contemporary Art

Nga Contemporary

Ken + Julia Yonetani’s NGA installation is a provocative response to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident. In an installation of chandeliers reconfigured to emanate UV light, and decorated with specially sourced uranium glass, each chandelier represents a country that operates nuclear power stations and is of a scale relative to that country’s nuclear output. It is work that is aesthetically astounding, accessible and engaging. Uranium glass contains very small traces of uranium within the glass, is legal and poses no health risks. ‘You can’t see, smell or perceive radiation with your senses, but it becomes visible in our works when illuminated with ultraviolet lights,’ say the artists. ‘Presented in darkness, the glass chandeliers and tubes glow with an eerie bright green light indicating the presence of radiation. We hope to prompt viewers to react in their own way to this radioactive presence.’ #nga #yonetani #chandelier #uranium #art #fukushima #nuclear

c3 Gallery Accepting Exhibition Applications

Round 1 Applications close Thursday 31st March

Practitioners in any field of creative endeavour are eligible to exhibit, including (but not limited to) visual and audio-visual arts, new media, design, craft, fashion, sound art, performance and architecture.

Applications to exhibit can be for solo shows or curated group shows. The curatorial committee prefers applications based on new work or substantially reworked exhibitions (if the work is installation or project based).

Applications should provide a clear vision of the exhibition outcome through text and images. Your submission should inform the curatorial committee of what will appear in the gallery, whether the application includes finished works or work in development.
Applications are welcomed for individual spaces or for projects that span multiple galleries. If you wish to use more than one space, it’s important to discuss your application with the Director who can be contacted on 03 9416 4300.

Fash Rev Week

Who made my clothes?

Everyone with a social conscience can be part of Fashion Revolution and the concerted week of awareness raising that will unfold from April 18-24.

812de77a-17e5-472a-983c-3251d341aa0aThis global movement was catalyzed by the Rana Plaza factory collapse in 2013 and is working to create an industry that values people, the environment, creativity and profit in equal measure.

There are great resources on the Fash Rev website – or you can champion goodness along the supply chain by asking your favourite brand who made the clothes you wear by posting a photo with the hashtag #whomademyclothes on social media. See the infographic above for #fashrev stats and keep in touch with more news and local events through Fash Rev Australia.
